Religious services are provided under contract with Good News, Jail and Prison Ministry, whose purpose is: Health care services include an initial medical screening by medical staff, 24/7 medical staffing, daily sick call, and the availability of a full-time nurse practitioner. Medical services are provided by Pinal County Jail Health, a division of Pinal County Health and Human Services. FOOD & COMMISSARYįood services and inmate commissary are provided through a contract provider that assures the daily meals are nutritionally balanced and contain 2,800 calories daily. The Jail also houses those individuals who have been sentenced to serve their respective sentences in the county jail. The Pinal County Jail confines individuals who have been arrested, charged with criminal offenses, and are awaiting disposition of their cases within the criminal justice system. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Jail is the first Arizona Jail to receive its National Accreditation. ![]() The Pinal County Jail received its first accreditation in June 2011 and was reaccredited in December 2013, receiving a “Level 1” rating which is the highest score possible. The accreditation is governed by legal-based standards established through case law. The Pinal County Jail was selected as a pilot site by the Nationals Sheriffs’ Association for Jail Operations for Accreditation. This expansion provides the appropriate conditions of confinement for the increased inmate population. In July 2006 a 1,031-bed expansion was opened. Due to the explosive population growth within Pinal County it became necessary to expand the County Jail once again. The existing Jail was opened April 1st, 1996, with a bed capacity of 472. This places the Pinal County Jail into the Large Jail Category as defined by the National Institute of Corrections. The Pinal County Jail is the third largest County Jail in the state of Arizona, having a rated capacity of 1,503. The Pinal County Jail operates under the management and supervision of the Pinal County Sheriff. We will continue to support our federal partners in any way that we can to ensure the safety and security of our communities and our citizens. Our primary responsibility is to protect the people of Pinal County. Through our 287g program in our jail, we have a 48 hour hold to allow ICE agents to take custody of those who have been identified as being in the country illegally. Right now we have six detention officers who have 287(g) authority. The Detention Center participates in the Federal Government’s 287g program. The Pinal County Detention Center houses on average 600 inmates a day.
